Objectives

• Implementation of common standards on guardianship systems in four EU countries, safeguarding the rights of unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) & promoting their wellbeing in EU.
• Capacity-building of guardians so as to better safeguard the rights of the child & his/her best interests.
• Enhancement of interagency cooperation & understanding aiming at strengthening the role of the guardian & establishing a comprehensive child protection system (CPS).
• Reinforcement of children’s protection in cross-border & transnational situations.

Results

1. A comprehensive toolkit has been developed for guardians of unaccompanied children consisting of the following publications:

• Handbook on Standard Operating Procedures for Guardians
• Index of international, EU and national legislation relating to unaccompanied children
• Transnational Cooperation Protocol for Guardians
• Trainer’s Manual
• Accreditation procedure for Guardians
• Brochure for professionals working with unaccompanied minors on the role of the guardian
• Brochure for children about the role of the guardian

2. Improved knowledge & capacity of guardians and other specialists working with unaccompanied minors (82 persons participated in trainings).
