SECUREU project partners are organizing the conference “SECURING TOMORROW: Preparing security specialists for future challenges” which will take place on November 7, 2024.

The conference will discuss the future challenges of the security field – how to conduct high-quality training of security specialists and how to prepare for security challenges in the future. Security professionals, lecturers and students are invited to participate in the conference.

The conference will feature a panel discussion titled “Does the security and defense industry have enough regeneration and how to promote it?” Experts will debate whether Latvia is successfully preparing enough new specialists in the field of security and defense and what needs to be done to attract young people to the sector. They will also discuss whether these new specialists have adequate skills and knowledge, as well as the future skills that security professionals will need.

Conference will take place in Riga, Turiba University, Latvia.

Security professionals, lecturers, students, and anyone interested are invited to participate in the conference. Registration is open until November 1, 2024.

Participation is free of charge, and the working languages will be English and Latvian. Simultaneous translation will be provided.

PROGRAMME

The conference is organized as final dissemination event of ERASMUS+ SECUREU project. As part of this project, seven partners from Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, and Spain have developed various educational materials in the field of security risk management.

The world is coping with a wide range of challenges such as migration, cyber-attacks, organized crime and other new challenges, including a recent (current) virus-led crisis. In the past years these challenges have also become security issues of importance to many European countries. There is a need for professional, well trained specialists who can realize sound security risk management at various levels and in different kinds of organizations.

This course will help students to explore subject of security risk management, students will develop skills and gain knowledge about planning and implementing security management in different organisations, will learn how to identify and manage security risks.

Target group: Bachelor and Master level students are welcome to apply (last year students are not eligible). Course will be interesting and useful not only for security program students, but also for anyone who is interested in security and risk management subject.

Participants: 5 students from each country – Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Spain, Norway and the Netherlands.

Teachers: from Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Spain, Norway and the Netherlands.

3 ECTS credits will be awarded for the completed course.

Costs:

Course is free of charge and organisers will cover all basic costs related to the course – travel to Riga, accommodation, catering, limited amount of local public transport costs, study visits, excursions, and several free time activities.

What we will provide for you?

We will buy bus ticket for you, will organise pick-up service from bus station, will provide accommodation in our students hotel (4 bedded rooms), provide catering (breakfast, lunch and dinner during working days), public transport and several study trips and free time activities. Also, study materials will be provided by Course organisers.

IMPORTANT! Basic rules of the course

Any student who participate in the course have to attend at least 80% of all lectures, group work and field trips organised by the University.

In order successfully graduate the course and receive 3 ECTS, you will need to pass the final test.

motivation to participate in the course;
academic results;
recommendation from the Head of your Faculty.

In frame of ERASMUS+ project SECUREU Kazimieras Simonavicius University together with 6 partners from 5 countries is doing survey on security. With this survey we would like to ask opinion of students and teachers about security situation in their countries. If you are student or teacher, you are welcome to participate in survey and help us to gather valuable data which we will use to implement our project.

In frame of the project we will develop different study materials in security risk management field, will prepare recommendations on how and what to teach security students. And it is very important to gather data and feedback about security awareness and knowledge among our students and teachers. No matter –you are studying or teaching security related subjects or any other subjects – your opinion is important to us!
