Lina Novikevičiūtė: “The Fashion Industry Is Changing – and I Want to Be Part of That Change”


Meet Lina Novikevičiūtė – a passionate fashion enthusiast currently working at the sustainable fashion company and Lithuanian unicorn Vinted. This autumn, she embarks on a new journey as she begins her Master’s studies in Fashion Management at Kazimieras Simonavičius University (KSU).

With a background in languages and business management, and professional experience gained in France and Belgium, Lina brings an international perspective to everything she does. Today, she applies that knowledge to her dynamic role at Vinted.

“The knowledge and cultural experiences I’ve gathered are incredibly valuable – my work involves expanding into new markets, driving product growth, and shaping a seamless user experience within an international team,” Lina shares.

 

Passionate About Growth and Purpose-Driven Fashion

In her free time, Lina is all about personal and professional development. She’s an avid listener of self-development podcasts and audiobooks, explores coaching and leadership, and mentors aspiring professionals through the Women Go Tech programme.

“I never realised how much joy sharing knowledge could bring,” she says.

Creatively driven, Lina also engages in photography, visual art classes, and various artistic initiatives – all of which feed into her strong aesthetic sensibility.

 

Why She Chose KSU

Lina had long been searching for a degree that would bring together her passions for fashion, strategic thinking, and global business. She found exactly that in the Master’s in Fashion Management at KSU.

“I chose KSU to deepen my understanding of the international fashion business landscape – its challenges, opportunities, and future direction. It’s an exciting chance to meet like-minded people, broaden my thinking, and gain fresh inspiration. I’m really looking forward to meaningful lectures and thought-provoking discussions,” she says.

 

A Strategic Return to Academia

For Lina, learning is a way of life. But this year, something shifted.

“I felt it was time to take a more structured, strategic look at the fashion industry – not just through experience, but also through theory. I’ve become curious about fashion’s impact on people and society, where trends are heading, and the psychological power of clothing – how what we wear influences our self-expression, emotions, and identity.”

She sees fashion as a tool for creativity, renewal, and self-expression, but is equally aware of the environmental toll of fast fashion.

“Realising how much damage fast fashion has done to the environment brings a sense of consumer guilt. It forces us to ask: do we really need this constant, rapid change in fashion?”

“I want to grow and seek answers to these difficult questions – questions that affect our collective future.”

 

Fashion Policy, Sustainability, and Strategic Thinking

Lina believes that real change in the fashion industry starts with informed, strategic leadership.

“The more we understand the global fashion market, the more effectively we can lead organisations and make impactful decisions.”

One of the topics closest to her heart is the development of clear, internationally recognised sustainability standards for fashion. She applauds policy-level actions – like France’s decision to ban advertising for Temu and Shein on social media – but emphasises the importance of conscious consumer behaviour.

“Not everyone can afford expensive, sustainable products. That’s why second-hand fashion is so important – it promotes smarter, more responsible consumption.”

Lina also stresses the need for cultural sensitivity and contextual awareness in global business – to build fashion brands that are not only profitable, but ethical.

– Favourite book?
Hard to choose just one, but I still vividly remember how powerful and emotional John Irving’s The Cider House Rules was when I read it as a teenager.

– Dream dinner guest?
My future self – 50 years from now.

– What brings you joy?
Reaching that flow state – being fully present through dance and movement.

– Dream travel destination?
Cuba. I imagine it as a visual, social, historical, and emotional journey through a moment frozen in time.

– Favourite scent?
The smell of apples in autumn.
