How to Find an Internship Opportunity?

You have the flexibility to seek out internship opportunities within any company or organization situated in a participating country of the Erasmus+ program, regardless of its size, legal standing, or field of operation. Here are some examples:

  • Public or private companies (including social enterprises).
  • Public institutions at the local, regional, or national level.
  • Diplomatic missions or embassies.
  • Higher education institutions.
  • Research institutes or centers.
  • Educational institutions (ranging from early childhood education to secondary education, including vocational training and adult education).
  • Non-profit organizations, associations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and more.

The receiving institution cannot be:

  • European Union institutions.
  • Organizations or units responsible for managing EU programs.

Students have the option to seek internship placements in the following ways:

  • On their own initiative.
  • With guidance from professors or internship supervisors.
  • Within companies/organizations where KSU students have previously completed internships.
  • With support from international databases or intermediary organizations.

Financial Conditions

Students who successfully pass the selection process are eligible to receive an Erasmus scholarship, the amount of which depends on the country where the internship will take place.

Country Groups Monthly Scholarship
Group I: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden. 824  EUR
Group II: Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovak, Slovenia, Spain. 824  EUR
Group III: Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey. 756 EUR

The Erasmus scholarship is granted to cover additional mobility expenses, such as travel and insurance costs, language training if needed, and to compensate for higher living expenses in the host country. The scholarship does not cover all expenses related to the internship abroad.

Interns can also choose to go abroad with a “zero scholarship.” In such cases, the Erasmus scholarship will not be paid, but interns will still have access to all Erasmus student rights (including free use of the Erasmus language assessment and learning system, and more).

Students who opt for eco-friendly travel can receive an additional 50 EUR. Eco-friendly travel is defined as a journey where the majority of the trip is undertaken using sustainable transportation methods (such as traveling by bus, train, or carpooling with fellow students).

Important: Students from socially disadvantaged groups or those raising minor child(ren) may be eligible for an additional 250 EUR per month scholarship (not applicable in cases of special needs).

Students with special needs can receive additional support for their internship abroad. According to the Erasmus+ program guidelines, a person with special needs is defined as a potential program participant whose physical, mental, or other health-related condition is such that their participation in mobility activities is impossible without additional funding. Applications for this support should be submitted to the Education Exchanges Support Foundation. More information is available on the Foundation’s website at www.erasmus-plius.lt.

Erasmus Internship Selection Process

The Erasmus internship selection process takes place three times a year. In April, students are chosen for internships abroad during the summer or the fall semester. In January and June, students are selected for post-graduate internships abroad within the first year after completing their studies.

Key selection criteria include:
1. No outstanding academic debts.
2. A proposed internship program from the host institution that aligns with the requirements of the study program.
3. Demonstrated clear and strong motivation to undertake an internship abroad.
4. Proficiency in the foreign language that will be used as a working language at the host institution.

To participate in the competition, students must complete the application and submit it by the deadline specified in the call for applications. Information about the selection timeline and results will be personally communicated to students via email.

Important: Those interested in post-graduate internships must submit their documents to the Erasmus coordinator during their final semester. However, the decision to grant the scholarship is contingent upon the successful completion of their studies, including the defense of the final thesis. Post-graduate internships must be completed within the first year after graduation.

An Erasmus+ internship entails professional work experience within a company or organization located in a participating country of the Erasmus+ program. During this internship, students have the opportunity to:

  • Enhance their workplace skills.
  • Cultivate personal qualities that are beneficial to their chosen profession.
  • Improve their foreign language proficiency.
  • Immerse themselves in a different culture.
  • Build self-confidence.
  • Forge new professional connections.

The Erasmus internship is an integral component of the student’s academic journey and is officially recognized as a valuable professional work experience.

Erasmus scholarships are available for internships to both regular and extended study program students, with internship durations ranging from 2 to 12 months.

Important! Through the Erasmus+ program funding, students can receive financial support for up to 12 months, which can be allocated for various purposes, including studies, internships during their studies, and post-graduation internships (graduate internships).
